At a book group meeting close to Vertigo on Friday, we selected books for the group through April. It was sad to hear the women talk about the brilliant idea of ordering the books all at once from a dot-com. After I'd talked about picking the book for Friday based on it being on your shelves and the other organizer and I chatting about shopping Vertigo frequently.

The women mostly joined because they wanted to expand their reading horizons. But, they don't support the institutions, such as Vertigo, that make varied reading easier.

I loved unpacking the boxes as they arrived (every day’s Christmas at the bookstore), loved shelving (and displaying a bit more prominently those books I personally enjoyed), even loved being a cashier, by god. It’s the first job I had where I didn’t watch the clock.

Yes! Me, too.

Thanks for the kind words. Momentarily taken aback by "the author is a mega nerd," but in context, I realise it's an affirmation of my credentials. Gracias.

Sorry to hear, but glad to hear it's for a good reason! Jen, you saw that I was looking at a short story compilation called "Dumped," and told me it was really good, and you were right-- it was great. Thanks.
